Excerpt of Letter
Dear Maddy, Nov 15. 2021
I hope you receive this letter in the best of health and spirit. I am Antoine I received a letter from you last week. In the letter you spoke of a movement to abolish the 13th Amendment. That is a profound statement and a great thought.
I am currently serving life without parole within the Alabama Dept. of Corrections. My life mission is to overcome captivity and destroy/abolish the system which justifies slavery and involuntary servitude as punishment for a crime.
I am interested in joining the #EndTheException campaign but I am also interested in knowing who you are? What you do and how did you get my name and address. How do I know you are not F.B.I or an employee of the ADOC, so I ask you send me more info about you and your organization. I would really appreciate a picture of you and the group as well as the answers to who, what, where and how did this #EndTheException Campaign get Started.
What motivates you to be involved? Do you really care and how can i be of assistance to the movement?
Im living a death sentence so I need all the help I can get to fight for my life and the lives of my fellow brothers and sisters held captive in the Alabama Dept of Corrections.
Questions & Answers
- What work do you do and how do you feel about it?
Currently I do not work for the ADOC, over the last 24 yrs I have been assigned numerous jobs by the ADOC. I have worked in the institutional kitchen cooking and cleaning like a slave under inhumane conditions and abusive treatment by ADOC staff. (2003-2005)
I have worked on the farm and yard crew cutting trees grass and picking vegetables under 90 to 100 (degree) heat in the summer under the watch of a shotgun totting racist in Deep South Atmore, Alabama (To Kill a Mocking Bird Land). The Pay for each of the above jobs was 3 peanut butter/jelly sandwiches a day, no money at all.
I was a hospice care assistant at [redacted] Fac. I also was a secretary for social services at [redacted]. I made copies, Cleaned offices and bathrooms and ran errands. No monetary pay but incentives and learned a lot about how the ADOC worked. I’ve been a GED Tutor Mentor and Self Help Class Facilitator. I co-founded C.A.V convicts against violence as well as the F.A.M #FreeAlabamaMovement.
- What would you want someone who hasn’t been incarcerated To know about Prison Slavery?
First it is real!!! We are human beings but we are treated inhumanely by ADOC employees on behalf of the Alabama Citizens and government as Punishment for a crime. And the politicians and the ADOC employees are more criminal and brutal than most convicted citizens.
- When you read the Abolition Amendment. How does it make you feel?
I feel inspired driven to fight the powers that are upholding this system of modern day slavery. I’m hopeful and prayerful that one day we shall overcome.
- Do you want to be an active member of the campaign?
Yes, I would like to be active member of the campaign as well as thoroughly informed about the campaign. I believe our voices need to be heard. I am a organizer now within the ADOC Freedom Fight I have knowledge as a prisoner from 2 decades of captivity and freedom fighting. - We listen to NPR.
