Excerpt of Letter
My fellow Freedom Fighter,
Good Day! I hope you & your organization, along with any of your affiliated orgs, like the enclosed Act/Proposition. I write for many justice reform orgs as a ghost writer & am acknowledged on my writings in some newsletter. This keeps me pretty busy aside from my political contributions (like the one enclosed) & my college courses I take. I have a larger project that I’m currently involved in, however I am not permitted to detail it at this time.
As a Latino, born & raised in Texas & having lived in various neighborhoods in Dallas & Midland, TX. I have Lived as our beloved brother Dr. Martin Luther King would wish for all Americans to live by. “To judge people not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” Being incarcerated has even further removed the veil that blinds the majority of us rather than to blind justice. Especially in Texas.
This Act is directly meant for your org to support as an alternative to the Amending of the thirteenth amendment. I strategize ways to do as the intent of the amending is for, yet without amending. For we both know it is currently much harder to have it done, than it is to pass a legislation.
To answer you 5-questions listed in your letter.
1) I am a janitor. I am a slave. I feel this is meant to keep the relics of the confederacy alive, at the expense of the poor, illiterate & mostly minorities that make up the prisons in Texas.
2) It is a violation of our human rights. They force us to conduct hard labor. To take up all our time & energy. So we have (none) left to educate ourselves. We are left with nothing but resentment. This is afflicting both mentally & physically. We are given no incentives! NONE!
3) I like its intent. However, I understand the state of politics. And I know that it is a far ambitious dream. The AHRPA enclosed, is more realistic.
4) I would like to be an active member involved in your campaign for the cause/campaign. However, you may feel is best to apply myself & my resources.
5) There is not a prison radio show in this area. However, we mostly get our prison related news from David Brown (& guest Keri Blakinger of The Marshall Project) on the Texas Standard (NPR- Radio program from Texas Public Radio).
Please, share this Act/Prop and show your support for it as well. For it is all for the cause. I hope to be of service to your org & movement. You may contact me at the address up above or through my advocate via her email on the other letter. Either way, I look forward to hearing from you in show of support for one another. United We stand. For the change, we seek. Thank you for your time. Stay Blessed! All for the People! Toro para la gente.
Sincerely,
Alex S. A*One/ARS
