Re: Amendment to the 13th Amendment
Dear Maddy:
In regards to your October 1, 2021, letter involving the exception clause of the 13th Amendment to prison slavery in the United States.
I am a life prisoner who is now 65 years old and have served 25 years of continuous incarceration. I have failing health, severe arthritis and am required to work as a building porter at Valley State Prison in Chowchilla, California or will face disciplinary action, loss of privileges, a longer prison sentence and numerous other forms of punishment. I have considered filing a Inmate Appeal as to the requirement that I work until I am dead and have numerous friends older than I that have severe hearing loss, lack of mobility and ADA disabilities including loss of sight and other conditions, who are forced to work as well as slave to the state for punishment for a crime in California.
I will then challenge the regulation and 13th Amendment in a Court of Law citing the United Nations Charter on slavery, the European Union condemnation and other international law that condemn the practice. America is the only nation in the world that has slavery.
As to your questions:
- I work as a porter and find it painful, exhausting and maybe even life shortening.
- That it exists
- That it is long overdue. Vindicated in my beliefs as to such abhorrent laws in America.
- Yes. I will help any way I can and will bring suit in behalf of California prisoners myself with my attorneys and resources. I may contribute as well to the organization once I know more. I am a competent writer, have numerous friends and relatives in the media and have other resources.
- None
Please let me know how I can help/
Very truly yours,
Alan D.
